Feedback from hosting companies and interns in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Munich, Dublin, and Chicago in 2016. Some companies have hosted interns before and for others, this was their first experience hosting a student intern.

Sydney:

"I think [Global Academic Ventures] has done a brilliant job every year with providing us a suitable batch of interns to pick from. I am pleased to say that this year in particular we have made the perfect choice for our business, from that batch."

"Jamie excelled at picking up new concepts, including some of the more difficult implications of using different data sources. She understood why and how each data source had its place, and quickly understood the dynamics driving Australia's unique retail environment. When asked to contribute to story-boarding, in order to turn data into insight, she was able to collaboratively drive this process to create meaningful client outcomes." "Jamie was very enthusiastic in offering her support for all projects. I was particularly impressed in her ability to pick up new tasks and concepts quickly to ease the pressure of looming client deadlines. She was happy to take on feedback, and amend any work that had been completed to ensure the best client result."

"Nick's biggest skill was his desire for knowledge. He was digging into data and asking questions well beyond his years. This inquisitive nature meant that he was a very fast learning. When he was completing tasks he was not doing so simply to tick a box but instead he wanted to understand the context of the task and what its impact would be to the wider team. This is a very positive attribute."

"Jordan was one of the best internship candidates we have ever had... His work was flawless and dedication to the company during his time here was great to see and something extremely rare. Jordan's work was of an exceedingly high level shown through both outstanding written and verbal communication. Jordan also had a large impact of the two external events he worked on during his time at the [company], proving to be a valuable asset to our team over the past few months." "Jordan's key strength is his outstanding communication skills with fellow interns, managers and stakeholders. Jordan would make an excellent addition to any corporate partnerships team and we highly recommend him."

Hong Kong:

Dolce acted in a mature way in the workplace and was confident to talk to other colleagues, even the most senior colleagues. I think these are great characteristics for a student to have. Dolce also asked when not sure about the task rather than sitting silently and wondering what to do. This approach is always valued by seniors and viewed positively." "Zixian was also keen to join in with team activities such as team lunches and after work activities and was able to fit in very well with the team."
- Hong Kong Intern Supervisor 2016

"Nora single handedly understood the logics build in the workbook and managed the vendor well. She was very articulate and detail orientated; had a great amount of patience and in depth understanding of the sharepoint; and has put forward some very great ideas for future improvement of the sharepoint." "She had it all, smart, great presentation skills, great understanding of excel, use of macro and interpretation of logic was extraordinary." "...continue with this [internship program] initiative and we shall support you in the coming future. Well done!"

The student engaged in the following projects: media monitoring; desk research; drafting media materials; new business research / powerpoint; management and training for new intern; media event staffing; and case study development. "Alex, quite frankly, excelled at everything. His positive attitude made him a joy to have on the team and around the office." "Alex was absolutely fantastic. He approached every project with enthusiasm, added a lot of personality to the team meetings, and constantly volunteered for extra work. He assumed a leadership role in the daily media monitoring and even trained the incoming intern voluntarily. If he were interested in coming back to HK we would offer him a job immediately!"

Wilson performed various financial modelling projects for the equity research team. We started him on simply entering in historical financial information into spreadsheets but he quickly progressed to building full financial models for companies that we were going to initiate coverage on. We would not always progress interns onto doing financial models, but we found his work to be timely and accurate, and he was motivated to do a good job. "Wilson progressed to full financial modelling because he excelled at the more basic tasks that we had him complete. He was diligent and a mature and personable presence in the office. I would have no hesitation in recommending him for a role in equity research."

"Primarily, Michael worked on a project for [a well known global brand]. This was an important "10 year marketing plan" for the growth of their key spirits brands in this region. Tasks included secondary research into the market and consumer, and reviewing a large amount of material shared by the client. Then, Michael helped highlight the important material and organize it to improve story "flow" and craft a quality presentation. From here, he worked with our designers to check layouts and complete the extensive presentation document. Alongside this major project, he also worked on tagline development for a major Chinese sports brand and competitive and trend research for a top Chinese apparel retailer." "In general, Michael had a good attitude, good work ethic, and produced quality work on time down to the details. He was able to show his knowledge and thoughts and work independently at times, but also ask questions, seek guidance, and grow."

It made it really easy and comfortable to settle in, and helped me learn a lot as I wasn't afraid to ask questions.
